Despite the brilliance of the business model, the organization behind it is reportedly in a state of terminal velocity disarray. All eleven of xAI’s original co-founders have departed the company. More damning is the internal sentiment; a recent survey found that management “didn’t seem to know what it wanted.”
This has led to a significant “vibe gap” in developer trust. Internal reports suggest that xAI’s own engineers prefer to reach for Anthropic or OpenAI tools instead of Grok Build.
